Stony Hill is the perfect golden hour location, and I get so excited to do family photo sessions there on a sunny evening! Especially in the fall, there is a gorgeous red-orange maple and two trees with hundreds of red berries. This family was so sweet and photogenic with the most well-behaved, smiley children ever!

I love how they chose cool tones for their outfits like navy, grey, and turquoise – it made a gorgeous contrast with the warm fall colors!

It had been a very overcast day and then right about the time of our photo session the sun started to peak out from the clouds! I was thrilled! The lighting was a bit tricky throughout the shoot because the sun couldn’t decide whether to come out or hide… so I utilized both angles: sun behind my subjects for a nice backlight glow, and sun directly shining on them through the overcast sky to make sure they were bright enough!

This was actually my first time taking photos at Stony Hill with more overcast lighting. Up until now I’ve been blessed with so many sunny days for all my shoots! I think they still turned out gorgeous, which goes to show just how perfect of a location it is! I did have to improvise on places I normally pose families – one spot was simply too dark in the shade to get the look I wanted. So we moved to a new spot!

I love this pose – it’s one of my favorites to do with families 🙂

She was being a *little* shy for her own portrait, but isn’t that first picture just the cutest?! I love how she is straightening her dress. Couldn’t have posed her better myself!

I love this precious family! I’m so glad I got to take their pictures.
