This was my last photo session of the day on Sunday, and the sun had *just* sunk behind the treeline. A thick fog rolled in over the river within seconds, bringing a chill with it. As I waited for the family to arrive, I wondered what this change in weather would mean for photos. I wandered around and studied the light. My previous session less than an hour ago had a completely different vibe. They had golden sunshine and needed to face away from the sun to prevent the harsh light casting shadows on their faces. But now I realized, we needed to face the direction of the hidden sun to get the best lighting. I realized with excitement that we were right next to a beautiful orange tree that would be a perfect backdrop for the direction we needed to face!
While the fog created a cool background that could have been a viable option for family photos, I opted not to use it because I knew their faces would be too dark and shadowed facing away from the setting sun in this situation.
I did newborn photos and 6 month photos for this adorable little guy, and when his parents reached out and said they would love 9 month photos as well, I was thrilled! His mom said that he’s changed so much in the past 3 months. When they got him out of the car I was so amazed at just how much he has grown! And as always, he smiled perfectly for every single photo. Such a photogenic and sweet little guy, my heart is melting every time I look at these pictures!
This family is a photographer’s dream, so easy to work with and just the cutest! I’m glad the weather didn’t get too bad and we still had the opportunity to capture these fall photos! This time of year is always tricky because you never know what you’re gonna get in Wisconsin. Will it be summer or winter today? So blessed that we got a true autumn day for this photo shoot – a little chill but not too cold!
